On October 28, we welcomed third-year economics students from Amity University to Global Textile's spinning mill in Tashkent.
We began with our story, "We Grow Clothes," introducing the students to our production processes and how operations are organized across a large business. We then discussed what lies behind a company's growth, the decisions that shape its development and the importance of staying true to its principles.
We talked about reputation and responsibility towards people. We also reflected on the history of the cotton boycott of Uzbekistan and the changes that have taken place across the country and its textile industry over the years. It is a real example of how long rebuilding trust can take, and why consistency, transparency and honest dialogue with partners matter.
The students asked many questions, some of which were quite unexpected. Several times, the conversation went well beyond our planned agenda.
We wanted these future economists to take something meaningful from the Global Textile story. Lasting achievements are built through everyday work, knowledge, principles and decisions that sometimes require considerable courage. Being young, lacking experience or facing difficult circumstances should never prevent anyone from setting ambitious goals.
In a few years, these students will be assessing risks, making plans and taking decisions of their own. We hope they will remember our conversation when the numbers suggest one answer and their principles suggest another.
