Why an internship in Uzbekistan is not just a job, but a real journey into the textile world...

If I told you, "I did an internship and internship in Central Asia, in Uzbekistan, and I liked it so much that I want to come back again..." would you believe it? I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't gone and seen it with my own eyes.…
With these words, our intern from Germany Maximilian Guemto, a 4th year student at the University of Albstadt-Sigmaringen, began his report on the practice.
- How did you come here and for what purpose?
At the beginning of the 4th year of my studies, I was given the opportunity to choose a project related to my field of study and interests in Uzbekistan. I was offered several options, but I chose the one that I was particularly interested in. A young company, one of the leading textile clusters in Uzbekistan - Global Textile, it was here that I headed my way.
After choosing a place, all I had to do was settle the organizational issues and get a visa. Everything went smoothly, and I started my practice on September 1st.
The main purpose of my visit is to get to know the production processes more closely and to solve the problem of waste in the cotton processing process.
- What should I pay attention to before coming?
Global Textile is a group of companies with a cluster system that covers different areas of textile production. I chose a branch in Ferghana for my practice, as I was interested in the spinning production process.
As it turned out, English is spoken less here, which makes it difficult to actively participate in everyday affairs, but I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the processes on my own, to study production more deeply.
Therefore, if your specialization is not limited only to textiles, then I recommend choosing an internship in Tashkent, where there are internships in marketing and other departments. In addition, in Tashkent, more employees speak English, which is especially convenient. Nevertheless, the trip to Ferghana is definitely worth it: here I visited cotton fields, cleaning plants and the spinning mill itself, which became a unique experience, difficult to access in Germany. Even a week or two here will open up a lot of new things in the field of textile production.
- What would you tell your friends about first of all from practice?
About the corporate culture at Global Textile.
Questions are always welcome here, and the staff is always ready to help and answer professional questions. Thus, I have learned a lot in the spinning and processing of cotton – for this I am very grateful to Global Textile. I can only recommend the practice here. For me personally, there was an interesting nature. Every evening I went out for a run and admired the sunset. It was a kind of therapy for me, and I can say with confidence that the sunsets here are strangely beautiful.
- Would you return to Global Textile again?
Definitely!
Practicing in Uzbekistan, and especially at Global Textile, is definitely an enriching experience. I feel very comfortable and protected here. It is important to have a certain degree of curiosity, openness and understanding, as a different culture also means a different way of thinking that needs to be respected. This experience allows us to understand how big and diverse the world is. Uzbekistan was very new and inspiring for me in many aspects, despite the fact that I am from Cameroon, lived in Germany for five years and in Korea for six months.
